Tony stalked into the War Room in Avengers Tower with his arm full of paperwork, hastily shoved into a manilla folder. He wanted to be sure everyone had arrived and dealt with smalltalk before he got in, he…
He sat there in relative stupor, unsure weather his medication was kicking in or the sedatives SHIELD forced into his previously emerald skin had started to wear off. Bruce blinked purposefully, trying to jump start his mind. Unsure weather he himself was dreaming, or this all came to fruition and reality. Listening to his friends talk, Johnny, Peter, Steve and Carol. Various states of torn, he himself wished he could be mad, could get mad, but every time he attempted his head nearly collided with the table as he hazed out. Hearing Carol finish he began to stand.
His whole body was a sickly green, the capillaries in his eyes were verdant, as well as the surface vessels on his hands. The notably pulsed as he clenched his fists. His lesser half no doubtably trying to smash his way through the drug induced wall. He looked up about the room attempting to meet eye contact and gauge feelings. He crossed his now beryl tongue over his parched lips as he cleared his throat. His voice is strangely distorted as he speaks, “Banne-” he paused and takes a breath” I think, Johnny is right. We are gonna need to bait him out. We need alluring bate though….Goldilocks will know what we need..” Coughing a bit as his voice cracks at the end of his sentence.
”Cupid’s gone, ain’t nothin’ gonna bring ‘em back either” His voice and fists shake as they rest on the table, “..and that, sonofabitch, is gonna pay.” His eyes welled up when he dropped his head. Standing there in a moment of silence, “I’M GONNA SMASH HIM!” With a sudden burst of clarity, his hands raise and come careening onto the table, giving two sizable indentations in the table.
His heart rate monitor rang out with its shrill cry. Banner took a deep breath as he began to recompose himself. Opening the small satchel with the SHIELD logo on it and crunching down on some pills from within the contents.Sparing a glance at Bruce as he swallowed more pills, Rhodey stood. Of all the people in the war room, he belonged the least. These people had known Barton far better than he, and were most certainly feeling his loss more keenly. Still, these were his friends and he would do whatever it took to help them.
“I know I probably don’t belong here, so I’ll keep this short and sweet. I didn’t know Barton as well as you, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was an Avenger and Loki was responsible for his death. I’ll do whatever you want me to, even if it is sit in an office and scramble air support.”
With that, he sat down again and started making mental notes of all the things that would need to be prepared.
Bobbi had kept quiet until now, her anger a warm reminder in depths of her belly. As the colonel sat down, she moved towards the table, her face an expressionless mask.
“I’ll be frank: this was a screw up of biblical proportions. No one should have died. I won’t lay blame, but when this is over, there’ll be hell to pay.” Bobbi narrowed her eyes behind her glasses as she spoke. Her rage was slowly bubbling to the surface and she clamped down on it firmly before she said something she’d regret later.
“That said, I agree with Carol. We need to set a trap to catch Loki. He got anything he’s particularly… attached to, Thor?
Thor was shaking, one hand tight on the handle of Mjolnir, just to give it something to do, the other on the edge of a nearby table. He listened to his fellow teams mates speaking, and he knew that it had to be done. They had to bring down Loki. No matter what was the technical cause of Clint’s death, Loki was the one that was at the core of the situation. Loki was always the one that was to blame, whose shoulder’s the fault rested on. And when they were children, that wasn’t all too bad- it surely kept Thor out of trouble and his father’s anger directed at his younger brother. But now, it was no childish prank. A man was dead. Thor’s friend, was dead.
He nodded at the question posed to him and said, “Aye, he does. But it would be cruelty to use his children against him. We must think of something else.” What, besides his children, did Loki hold dear? It was here that Thor really realized how little he understood his brother. He sighed, frustration building up. “I do not… I do not know. My brother… he is a mystery. I am ashamed to say that in this, I know him not.”
Thor thought hard and long about this, and he could do nothing but shake his head. “I am sorry. I do believe that anything else, my brother would have rid any attachment of.”
